Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore came up short in his quest to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night, but he can be proud of the fact that he did make history. Moore was the first Heisman finalist from Boise State, finishing fourth behind winner Cam Newton of Auburn.
He also became the latest non-AQ player to finish in the Top 4. Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan finished third in 2007, while Utah quarterback Alex Smith finished fourth in 2004 and TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson was fourth in 2000. Moore got 40 first-place votes, 165 second-place votes and 185 third-place votes for a point total of 635.
Newton had 2,263 points, while Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was second and Oregon running back LaMichael James was third.
Let's all remember, Moore is a junior and has another season to play.
You can only imagine what he will do next. Moore has thrown eight interceptions combined in the past two seasons. He currently ranks second nationally in pass efficiency rating (185.0), third in completion percentage (71), fourth in touchdown passes (33) and eighth in total passing yards (3,506).
Earlier Saturday, Moore did have one triumph -- he was named to the Football Writers Association of America All-America team at quarterback over Newton.
