Turns out field-goal percentage was the second scariest element of Notre Dame's trip to the SEC/Big East Invitational.
The Irish's charter plane aborted its takeoff in the hours after a 72-58 loss to Kentucky on Wednesday night due to steering issues -- and with the aircraft at full speed on the runway. Thanks to the glitch, the team didn't make it back from Louisville, Ky., until after 5 a.m. on Thursday.
"Yeah, it wasn't very fun," Irish forward Tim Abromaitis said "It was kind of scary a little bit. We were on the runway, but they had the plane going full speed and then all of a sudden stopped really quickly. We all jumped up like, 'What's going on right now?'"
At least coach Mike Brey let his crew sleep in a bit, pushing Thursday's practice back to 5 p.m., in preparation for another critical game against Gonzaga at home on Saturday.
"It was abnormal," Irish forward Tyrone Nash said. "I've never aborted a takeoff. I'm just glad we weren't in the air."
