Antonio Silva ‘could not see a thing’ in UFC 146 loss to Cain Velasquez

Antonio Silva sustained a cut in his loss to Cain Velasquez that gushed a whole lot of blood. Much of that blood went into his eyes, so it's not surprising that Silva said he couldn't see a thing in the fight.

"One of the main reasons I got defeated was that. I couldn't see a thing, there was a lot of blood and my eyes were burning. I tried to defend myself and not get hit at, shaking my head to see if I could get rid of that blood, but there was no way around it. From that moment on my corner was my eyes."

It's bad enough to not be able to see. Can you imagine not being able to see and having Velasquez repeatedly hit you? Silva tweeted that the cut required 13 stitches.

Not surprisingly, he received a medical suspension after the bout. He is out of action until July 23, possibly up to November if his nose is broken. Both possibly out of action until November, Velasquez and Jamie Varner received the longest suspensions because of hand issues.

UFC 146 will answer these six questions

The UFC is billing this weekend's bouts as literally the biggest main card of all time because a whole lot of big dudes are fighting on the main card. It will answer these six questions.

1. Who is the best heavyweight in the UFC?* Of course this question will be answered. With the UFC heavyweight belt on the line, the main event is designed to answer that question. However, it has to have an asterisk on it because of the Alistair Overeem shenanigans before the bout. He was suspended from fighting for nine months because of abnormally high levels of testosterone, and his own actions kept him from fighting on this card. Through no fault of their own, Frank Mir and Junior dos Santos' bout will have an unsatisfying "what if" hanging over it.

2. How did Cain Velasquez recover from his first loss? From the second Velasquez stepped into the cage, he was a freight train. He started his career with nine straight wins, topped off by a TKO of Brock Lesnar for the title. Dos Santos stopped that train with a 64-second knockout, and this is the first time fans will see Velasquez since then. Will he be able to fight back to get a win over Antonio Silva, or will Velasquez suffer his second loss?

3. Can Dan Hardy stop his epic losing skid? "The Outlaw" has four losses in a row in the UFC, which is an unheard of number. Fighters have been cut for much less. After losing to Chris Lytle in August, Hardy took time away from the sport. He doesn't have an easy fight in Duane "Bang" Ludwig. We'll find out Saturday night if he can finally right the ship.

4. Is Jason Miller more than a TV star? "Mayhem," and his awesome dog Gator, starred on both "The Ultimate Fighter" and "Bully Beatdown." He is engaging, funny, and knows how to be the star of a show. However, that didn't help him in his first fight back in the UFC in six years, as Michael Bisping manhandled him. Miller's bout with C.B. Dollaway will give him a chance to prove he belongs in the UFC.

5. Can an all-heavyweight card be exciting? The UFC is taking a gamble with this card. Though the idea of an all-heavyweight card is good in theory, in practice, it's dicey. Heavyweights can provide great knockouts, but they can also provide wheeze-fests like Travis Browne's bout with Rob Boughton or Frank Mir's with Mirko Filipovic. The pressure is on these 10 men to deliver.

6. Who will Daniel Cormier fight next? The newly crowned Strikeforce heavyweight champ will supposedly have another fight in Strikeforce, but his best tests will be in the UFC. UFC 146 is chock full of heavyweights who could test Cormier's wrestling and striking. Who will his next opponent be? See the main card for the answer.

Manager: Antonio Silva's fight-altering UFC 146 cut required just three stitches

That cut - the one changed the course of the fight and left Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva drenched in blood at this past weekend's UFC 146 event - wasn't as bad as it looked.

"It wasn't really a big cut," Silva's manager, Alex Davis, told MMAjunkie.com Radio. "It was right between the eyes. It's a very fleshy part. It bleeds a lot. He's a big guy, and his head is very well irrigated, so it was a blood bath.

"But it only (needed) three stitches. It wasn't that bad, but it looked bad on TV."

Josh Thomson gets pranked by AKA teammates (VIDEO)

Josh Thomson has been hard at work at his gym, AKA, to prepare for this weekend's title bout against Gilbert Melendez. He's been so busy, in fact, that he didn't notice when his teammates moved his car in a prank.

Geez. You can't mess with the man's car before he fights.

Both Thomson and Daniel Cormier, a player in the prank, will fight at Strikeforce this weekend. Will it be a good weekend for the AKA fighters? Tell us in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook.

UFC 146 fighters make weight, all bouts official

The "biggest" main card in UFC history is official as every fighter for UFC 146 weighed in. The 10 main card fighters weighed in at 2,485 lbs., the same weight as a 1986 Pontiac Fiero.

The packed weigh-ins also took on a bit of a party atmosphere. Kyle Kingsbury wore a tiny pink shirt that read "Hug Me", a fanny pack, and very tight, very small underwear, followed by a wrestling singlet as he faced off with Glover Teixera. Jason "Mayhem" Miller wore a pink boa and brought a pink boombox (that's right I said boombox) to the scale.

Shamrock says depression lurks for aging athletes, points to need for validation outside sport

Ken Shamrock bristles when people immediately point to steroids or head trauma when an athlete falls ill or dies.

"If you look at businesses or divorces, people kill themselves because of depression," he told MMAjunkie.com Radio. "Because they've done something in their life for so long, some people don't know how to deal with that.

"It can't just be head trauma, man, because it happens in places where they don't get head trauma."

Reports say Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste arrested in Las Vegas

TMZ reports that UFC Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste was arrested on a domestic violence charge. A report from MMA Weekly confirms she was released from the Clarke County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond.

She was not present for the preliminary fights, but was seen on-camera at the beginning of the third-from-last fight of the night. UFC president Dana White commented on her absence from the early fights.

"Arianny is our baby. She has been with us for over five years. She is a good girl and an amazing ambassador for the UFC. I don't know all the details of what happened but we have her back and support her 100 percent," White told Yahoo! Sports.

Celeste was in Las Vegas for UFC 146, and worked weigh-ins on Friday. A UFC Octagon Girl's basic job is to hold up a card between rounds that display round numbers, but they also serve as ambassadors for the UFC, meeting fans, doing autograph signings, modeling UFC gear and serving as one of the faces of the UFC. She hosts the UFC's web show, "UFC Ultimate Insider."

She has worked for the UFC since 2006, and has also modeled for Playboy, Maxim and FHM.

B1G's playoff position (pay attention, SEC)

For a league that prides itself on superior on-field speed, the SEC seems pretty slow in grasping the Big Ten's playoff position. Then again, SEC folks seem to bristle at anyone who doesn't pay homage to their greatness, kiss their feet and fall in line with their view. Not surprisingly, the SEC brass spent Day 1 of its spring meetings in Florida reiterating the need to have the best four teams selected for a college football playoff. Given the SEC's dominance in the sport, the probability of the league placing multiple teams among the "best four" seems strong in most seasons.

UFC 146 medical suspensions: Velasequez draws possible six-month term for left hand

Daniel Cormier isn't the only one with a hurting hand.

American Kickboxing Academy teammate Cain Velasquez, who earned a dominant first-round TKO over Antonio Silva at this past Saturday's UFC 146, needs an X-ray of his left hand. If broken, he could be out until November.

MMAjunkie.com today received a list of medical suspensions following UFC 146 from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Jon Jones, manager speak out after DUI arrest

After his arrest for a DUI early Saturday morning, Jon Jones posted a statement on his Facebook page. He started by saying he "screwed up big time."

"I'm truly sorry to those of you that I may have embarrassed in any way, to those of you with kids that I may have let down. I will prove to them as well as to myself that no matter what is happening in life, we can always work our way back and make things even better than before."

Jones' manager, Malki Kawa, went on MMA Weekly Radio and pleaded for fans to give Jones a chance.

"I would just kind of like to let the fans know to give him a chance. Give yourself a chance to get all the facts in yourselves, wait until everything gets said and done, and then at that point if you want to vilify him afterwards and you heard him speak and you heard him say his part and then vilify him, I can't control what people are going to say. But it is too soon; it is too quick in my opinion. He really is a decent guy. He's a very, very good guy, trying his hardest to be a good role model, a good example, and he wants to be that. No one's perfect and he's never said he was and never said that he doesn't make mistakes. It's a fact he made a mistake. He messed up and I'm sure he's going to come out and apologize and do what he's got to do."

I've been surprised by the amount and type of vitriol aimed towards Jones for this incident. I find drunk driving deplorable and have no problem with Jones (if found guilty) or anyone else who is found guilty of such reckless, selfish, disgusting behavior spending a whole lot of time in a jail cell.

But the comments here, on Facebook and on Twitter have had a gleeful tone. Too many people are happy that Jones screwed up. Let's be clear here. Jones could have killed someone. Jones could have killed himself. This arrest is no reason to rejoice.
