Gold medalist Lysacek finalist for Sullivan Award

Naperville figure skater Evan Lysacek, the 2010 Olympic gold medalist, today was named one of five finalists for the Sullivan Award, which has honored America's top Amateur athlete for 81 years.

The field was cut from 12 to five Thursday based on ballots from National Governing Bodies of Olympic sports, Division I sports information directors and online voting at usatoday.com.

The winner, also selected by the voting, will be named March 14.

Community service has become a major factor in the Sullivan Award.  Lysacek was cited for his work with Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation,  Ronald McDonald House Charities and several other organizations.
The other finalists are:

*Regina Jacquess, world champion water skier, senior water ski judge, member of the USA Water Ski ethics committee and a full-time pharmacist.

*Tahnee Robinson, University of Nevada basketball captain active in counseling Native American youth about the ills of drug and alcohol use.  She is a Native American (Eastern Shoshone, Pawnee, Cheyenne and Sioux) who grew up on the border of the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.

*Karissa Wimberley, world champion baton twirler, magna cum laude graduate of Florida State, active volunteer in after school and special needs programs.

 *DJ Williams, won Disney Spirit Award as most inspirational player in college football and Mackey Award as nation's top tight end in 2010.  The University of Arkansas senior has volunteered in women's shelters and several youth programs in Arkansas.
