So far, so good. Keenum has sat out only one practice to rest. He participated in the scrimmage Saturday, and threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Edwards.
"It’s a lot better than sitting on the couch and doing rehab," Keenum said Tuesday in a phone interview. "It’s the best rehab I’ve done -- getting out there and practicing with the guys and finally playing football again."
Keenum says his knee feels good, and he is able to do everything that is asked of him.
"I've been out of the pocket, sprinting out, scrambling and my knee is feeling better every day," he said. "It’s been good. It’s getting to where it does feel normal. When I wake up in the morning, my knee may be stiff and sore, but the more we go on, the stronger it’s getting."
Keenum was granted a sixth year of eligibility this past offseason, which has allowed him to resume his quest of the NCAA career passing mark. Timmy Chang holds the mark of 17,072 yards, and Keenum is 3,486 yards away from breaking the mark.
Expectations are high for Keenum going into his final season. He was the preseason choice for Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and has been named to watch lists for the Walter Camp, Maxwell, Davey O'Brien and Manning awards.
