Police plan to question LSU's Jefferson

LSU senior quarterback Jordan Jefferson has been named by witnesses as being part of a fight early Friday morning outside of a Baton Rouge, La., bar.

Baton Rouge police are investigating the matter and have not named Jefferson as a suspect. Baton Rouge police spokesman Don Stone told Glenn Guilbeau of Gannett Louisiana that police were in the process of trying to interview Jefferson on Friday and should know more Friday night or Saturday.

Witnesses told police that several other LSU players were also present during the fight. Police said four people were sent to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

LSU coach Les Miles released a statement that read: "We are aware of the incident that took place at an off-campus location at which some of our players were present. We don't know to what extent our players were involved. We are trying to gather as much information as possible to get a better understanding of what exactly took place last night."

Jefferson heads into the season as the Tigers' starting quarterback after struggling last season. Miles has consistently praised Jefferson for the improvement he's made as a passer during the offseason and for the leadership qualities he's shown.

Stone reiterated that police were not labeling Jefferson a suspect, nor were they labeling him a victim.

"We don't know how much he was involved, but we're getting a lot of information leading us in that direction," Stone said.
