Gary Carter, baseball Hall of Famer, dies at 57

Gary Carter, who was raised in Fullerton and played for the Montreal Expos, Mets, Giants and Dodgers, had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in May. A catcher, he had a key hit in the 1986 World Series and was known for his exuberance.

Gary Carter, a Hall of Fame catcher who helped the New York Mets to a dramatic victory over the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series, died Thursday in Florida. He was 57.
