UFC 143's Werdum grateful for octagon return, says exile forced improvement

LAS VEGAS - It took Fabricio Werdum more than three years to make it back into the UFC.

He believes God smiled on him. If nothing else, the gods of corporate acquisition were.

"If I wasn't in the UFC, I wasn't going to be able to fight Fedor (Emelianenko)," Werdum said today. "I think that was the one thing I had to do in my career. But now I'm here, and I'm back."
