Fedor to mix things up in preparation for the Strikeforce heavyweight GP

Fedor Emelianenko got a wake up last June when Fabricio Werdum snapped his 10-year unbeaten run. The 34-year-old MMA legend relaxed for a split second and got caught in a pretty elementary submission.

Fedor (32-2) is better than that. He knows it and his management knows it. He'll get a chance to prove himself in Strikeforce's awesome heavyweight grand prix. Emelianenko will face Antonio Silva next month. If he survives "Big Foot," he'll get the winner of Alistair Overeem and Werdum in the semifinals.

In an effort, to clean up his game, Mixfight.ru reports that the former PRIDE champ, will mix in new training partners.

In a couple of days, Gegard Mousasi and well-known coaches from Ernesto Hoost’s team will arrive in Russia. They will meet with Fedor and join his training process. This is intended to help diversify the preparatory process for Fedor. For a long time he worked with the same coaches and sparring partners. This will open up new skills for training, adapt from the representatives’ styles and use it in his personal technique. Also on that team that will prepare Fedor, is a fighter weighing 122 kg, the same weight as of that (Antonio) "Bigfoot" Silva’s.

Fedor is scheduled to face Silva on Feb. 12 in New Jersey. Andrei Arlovski and Sergei Kharitonov will also square off that night. The other two quarterfinal fights are still not official although the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the announcement should come this week.
