After the first four weeks of the season, there appear to be three serious Heisman Trophy candidates in the Big Ten. They're all mobile quarterbacks. Here's what each needs to do to stay in the race in October and beyond: Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin: Russellmania just needs to keep on trucking. He's leading the Big Ten in passing yards (1,136) while completing a staggering 75.8 percent of his throws for 11 touchdowns and just one interception. If the Badgers keep winning and he keeps up a high level of play, he'll be a serious factor.
Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan: Shoelace has to avoid a midseason fade like last year. Right now, he's got a memorable Heisman-esque performance against Notre Dame still somewhat fresh in voters' minds. He's also leading the Big Ten in rushing, again, with 552 yards. His passing numbers, though, have gone down with just a 48.6 completion percentage. First and foremost, he has to keep Michigan from stumbling in Big Ten play after a hot start. In other words, don't repeat 2010.
Taylor Martinez, QB, Nebraska: T-Magic gets a little less hype than the other two guys here, but he'll have a major showcase opportunity Saturday night in Madison. Martinez has run for 421 yards and thrown for another 647 while mastering the art of the big play. In the past two games, the Cornhuskers have lessened the load on their sophomore quarterback, and he's also played more efficiently. A couple of long runs against the Badgers this weekend will have Martinez in the national discussion.
