SEC bowl projections: Week 4

One more week is in the books, which means we're learning more and more about the bowl picture. Right?

Well, we're learning a little and we're taking our best shot at what things could look like this bowl season.

One thing is for sure: Alabama and LSU will be battling for a spot in the national championship game until the very end. It's a shame that these two can't play again in the SEC championship. No one has outplayed their defenses and no one will until they meet on Nov. 5 -- the quarterfinal for the national championship.

Believe it or not, Florida looks like the top team in the East right now. The passing game still doesn't have much firepower at all, but the defense and the running game will keep this team going. What it will do against the likes of Alabama and LSU is a different story.

Vanderbilt is still in our bowl picture, but the offense needs major improvements and will struggle to win games as it approaches the meat of the SEC season.

Auburn has the same sort of issues, only defensively. The Tigers showed improvement last week, but that was against the nation's worst offense, so it was expected. There still plenty of kinks that need to get worked out, but Auburn should be fine enough for bowl season.

Here's what the bowl picture looks like for the SEC heading into the fifth week of play:

Allstate BCS National Championship Game, Jan. 9: Alabama

Allstate Sugar Bowl, Jan. 3: LSU

Capital One Bowl, Jan. 2: Florida

AT&T Cotton Bowl, Jan. 6: Arkansas

Outback Bowl, Jan. 2: South Carolina

Chick-fil-A Bowl, Dec. 31: Georgia

Gator Bowl, Jan. 2: Tennessee

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, Dec. 30: Mississippi State

AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Dec. 31: Auburn

BBVA Compass Bowl, Jan. 7: Vanderbilt
