MIAMI -- After last Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne said with confidence that if he could stand on his injured left knee and move a little bit then he could play. He was standing in front of his locker with a set of crutches next to him when he said it, and early reports, which wound up being inaccurate, had Henne done for the season.Four days later, even though he did not practice all week, Henne was listed as Miami's emergency third quarterback for Thursday night's home game against the Chicago Bears at Sun Life Stadium. Tyler Thigpen, who held that designation against the Titans, gets his first start for the Dolphins and 12th of his NFL career, with newly signed Patrick Ramsey as his backup. He replaced veteran Chad Pennington on the active roster after Pennington went on IR with a shoulder injury.
Thigpen will not be taking snaps from regular starting center Joe Berger as he is out with a knee injury, but he has gotten a lot of reps with the man replacing Berger, Cory Procter. Having Henne on the sideline to help him with certain reads and terminology will be an added benefit for Thigpen, though Henne most certainly will be chomping at the bit to get in the game.
