Dyrell Roberts to miss rest of regular season

According to a news release by the school, Virginia Tech junior receiver/kick return man Dyrell Roberts will miss the rest of the regular season after having emergency surgery Friday morning. He developed a compartment syndrome in his his left thigh, according the head athletic trainer Mike Goforth.

Roberts suffered a bruised thigh on the first kickoff return in the Hokies' win against Georgia Tech Thursday night. He returned briefly, but missed most of the second half.

The surgery was performed at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg by Dr. Marc Siegel and Roberts will have a second surgery on Sunday. He will remain in the hospital for several days.

Roberts, from Smithfield, Va., has 21 catches for 303 yards and two touchdowns. He also averages 19.4 yards on 16 kick returns.

Goforth said Roberts hasn't ruled out for Virginia Tech's bowl game.
