Anyone who lived through the Bears' magical 1985 Super Bowl season still wonders why they never did it again. With that defense, Walter Payton running the ball and Mike Ditka and Buddy Ryan in charge, they were a dynasty waiting to happen, right?
Wrong. It never happened for various reasons, including the egos of Ditka and Ryan. And because of this, Sports Illustrated has ranked the team No. 5 on their list of Top 10 failed dynasties with the 28-3 loss to the Niners in the 1988 NFC title game in frigid Soldier Field as the low point.
The Bobby Hull-Stan Mikita Blackhawks are No. 9.
